Modesty to me is; knowing what one's self-Worth and striving everyday to live up to that standard. My own personal standard of modest is; to act in a manner that, it doesn't matter who (parent, priest, preacher, whoever...) is in my presence, I have nothing to be ashamed of. Also, to dress in clothes that fit appropriate meaning; not too tight or too loose, and of course not putting on so much make up that, I'd glow in the dark on the local street corner.
There is something to be said for the person who, maintains their modesty in today's world. They should be highly respected because it is hard to do. The clothes manufacturers out there are making children's and especially teens clothing so provocative that, it is actually difficult to find clothes for children who choose to be modest with their attire.
The manufacturers are making the shorts way too short (near enough to NOTHING), the mini skirt passed "mini" a long time ago,and the going trend for tee-shirts or blouses is; the tighter the better. This is sending a message to our young people that, it's alright to show everything you've got to everyone. No modesty there!
I have been married, I have been in a few relationships, and have many male friends and have been told by all of the that, they are more likely to be interested in a girl or woman who dresses with respect for herself. There is something to be desired in leaving some things to the imagination. Who wants someone that, they have shared their entire body with the whole world in public? If they do then, that is not saying much for the chooser either in my opinion. I believe people should save some of their body parts to be only shared and seen by that one special person in their life if they are consenting adults.
If you have true self-respect then, you have modesty to some degree. However, too few people have any self respect today and are not the best of examples for our future generations. They may dress fantastic in all of the latest trends and feel really good about their self but, how are they presenting their self to world on a daily basis? Some would probably be crushed if they only knew.
People wonder why nine year old are becoming sexually active so early and why children that age and younger are being sexually abused. All I can say is; just take a look around at how these children are being dressed in the summer time and look at what your local retailers are displaying for you to dress your children with. This should make you see that, modesty has gone out the door, right along with our children's childhood and innocence.
With all of this said, it is very unlikely that the people in this world will ever take a step back and see how trashy trends and the last sleazy fashions have taken away any modesty that, we can only pray that our children would grow up to have. This is such a shame because, if people would only open their eyes and see these clothes as being sexually provocative, sleazy and anything besides modest. I believe there would be less sexual activity between people who are too young to handle the consequences and less sexual abuse for innocent children.
How can parents teach modesty when the fashion industry, teen idols, pop stars, and you name it are teaching everything but modesty in their appearances?

Modesty is like ethics, its relative. Ethics is determined by you, what you think your ethics are. Modesty is the same.
