Poetry: Society

She sat alone in the club that night
The first time in her life she had felt such fright

The lights were low you know the place
Sat at a table with little space

She knew what was expected of her there
She wanted to run but she didn't dare

She needed the money that was for sure
She knew just how she would have to score

Along he came and sat beside her
Sat down and started to maul her

She drank the champagne which he had bought
And she knew what would be his next thought

The drink she hoped would blot it out
For what would happen next she was in no doubt

Would certainly change her life forever
Even though she knew it was not clever

For what she was about to start
She would for many years be a part

Of the life and time of many women
Who do such things to earn a living

She would not be proud of what she did
But she had to dress and feed her kids

Its not the life she wished to choose
Not many would want to be in her shoes

She knew of not what else to do
She had to see this first night through
