Poetry: River of pain

The River That Flows

I come to this spot
By the river each year,
By planting a daisy
For the love that I lost here.
Daisies are forever they say
And I want to prove my love,
For my darling I lost
Who is somewhere up above.

The river flows freely
Her voice I do hear,
As the water trickles by
I love you my dear.
Time is of the essence
Surely this I know,
Things that could've been
Listening to the river flow.

She drowned in this place
Where she threw herself in,
I tried to save her
Time and time again.
The water was so deep
As well as flowing fast,
I knew if I didn't make it
She wouldn't last.

She didn't want our life
To go on, in agony and pain,
Because her parents didn't care
If our love was to remain.
Remain to be forever
Is what her heart felt,
The way she said, 'I love you'
Made my heart melt.

So she took it upon herself
On that yet peaceful day,
She kissed me and jumped in
To take her life away.
If we couldn't be as one
As she explained, you see,
I want you to go on
With your life, without me.

What am I to do
I feel guilt in my heart,
I thought what we had
Was never to be apart.
I question myself this
The daisies, I plant in rows,
Everytime I come here
By the river that flows.
