Car reviews: Bentley Arnage

Bentley Motors as an automobile manufacturer resonates luxury, sleekness, and efficiency. The Bentley Arnage, first produced in 1998, fits the company's picky specificiations to a tee. Over 5 meters in length and 1.9 meters wide, the Arnage was born into a class of well-bred autos and today continues to be an essential part of Bentley Motor's resurgence on the automobile world.

Bentley, known for its perfection of high performance cars with a touch of elegance, has continued to roll out versions of its Arnage model since the inital launch of the car. Versions have varied from year to year as has the company itself, particularly when Bentley found itself in the midst of a nasty struggle between BMW and Volkswagen for its ownership.
The Arnage Red Label and Green Label models in the late 1990s were the offspring of the tussle, each produced with engines from different manufacturers. The Arnage RL limousine model followed in 2001 with larger wheelbases and armored body parts. The Arnage R and T lines came next; both were updates from the Red and Green label vehicles with the R designed for sportiness and the T for power. Arnage R and RL models display an engine that is boosted from 400 to 450bhp, with torque that escalates from 835 to 875Nm. The T comes with a revised twin-turbocharged V8 engine that makes for a mind-blowing 500bhp and 1000Nm of torque.

Take note that the Bentley Arnage gets around 10 mpg city and 15 mpg highway, and has been balked at for its inefficiency as a cost-effective vehicle. Autobloggreen.com called the car one of the Twelve Worst Polluters in the auto industry. Depending on the buyer and their needs of course, this fact may or may not be a deciding point when purchasing.

The new 2008 Bentley Arnage maintains the prestigious standards of its family, with remarkable powertrain and chassis enhancements and a fantastic handcrafted interior. It boasts bluetooth capabilities, parking sensors, a rearview camera, navigation systems, 4-wheel ABS and child seat anchors. A twin-turbo V-8 means 450 or 500 horsepower, based on the trim level. The touring limousine retails for around $283,000, while the sedan versions go for between $220,000-240,000. Like a Great Dane, this car is classy but still knows how to have fun. The car carries a heavy price tag but is still somewhat lower than comparable vehicles made by other high-end manufacturers. The Bentley Arnage is truly a car for the person who loves to drive; the person who sees his car not just as a vehicle but an extension of himself that in fact mirrors his own personality traits.
