Poetry: Facing death

Always with me in my heart

Death had come for you many times,
many times before.
But God would not allow it,
For he had so much more in store.
You had three children who still needed you,
A loving husband,heartbroken and spent.
No matter what the doctors kept telling us,
We weren't ready to let go just yet.
We all stayed there with you
right by your side.
Surrounding you with our constant prayers.
But there was no response at all,
Like you didn't even know we were there.
But deep down somehow I know that you knew.
All the love that filled that hospital room.
There was only the silence once they
shut off the machines.
How could this be happening?
I asked you,Please Mom if you are ok,
please give me a sign, somehow some way.
At that very moment you squeezed my hand!
Once very tightly, two times, and then three,
Immediately peace came over me!
Death had claimed your body, the flesh.
But it could not touch your soul.
Which already belonged to our heavenly Father,
along with your heart of purest gold!
Physically you are no longer here.
But you are always with me in my heart.
Enough memories to last a lifetime through,
even though for now we must be apart.
