Movie reviews: No Country For Old Men

This is a movie I couldn't wait to see when it was finally released on DVD. I sat with anticipation and made sure everyone else in the room was quiet so I could absorb what was sure to be an amazing film. It won a few Oscars and critics from all over praised this movie. The famous Coen brothers directed and they did Fargo so it was bound to be great.

The movie began and the longer it went the more agitated I grew in my seat. I couldn't believe this movie was praised so highly. I know by saying this I am not in popular company, but a review is just that, one person's opinion.

Okay this movie begins with a guy finding 2 million in the desert, along with the cash is tons of heroin and many dead Mexicans (obviously the drug runners). Now I ask you, would you take this money? No way, because someone is going to want the money (in enters the killer). Now, if you do take the money do you stick around or flee as far away as you can? Of course either of these scenarios doesn't make a movie, so in come the crazy Coen characters.

I kept waiting for something exciting to happen and it never did. I wanted better dialoge but it fell flat for me. I was waiting for some excitement and it never delivered. I have never seen such smart characters in a movie, I mean they all knew what everyone was going to do before the character even knew what they were going to do, like when the wife walked in and said she knew he was going to be there. How did he find her, he's just such a super intelligent killer that he knew right where she was, in her mothers home.

There is another scene when the thief knows the killer is outside his hotel door and he sits there waiting and watching the shadow below the door, I was waiting for the guy to leave (I mean they had all been so smart in figuring things out so far so I was sure the guy was smart enough to flee). Does the guy move, no, he waits until the killer wounds him then and only then does he try to runaway. It was laughable.

I'm sorry to say this to those that liked it but I watched this movie twice to try and find something I missed the first time. I think the Academy gave the Coen brothers the Oscar because they screwed up where Fargo was concerned. I suggest you rent this movie and don't spend twenty dollars to buy it.
