The Boston Globe reports that John McCain has formed an exploratory committee. John McCain, a Republican senator from Arizona stated Sunday he is taking the first steps for a White House bid. The committee will allow McCain to raise money and travel the country to gauge support. If McCain decides to run, he will have a good chance at winning the nomination. Not since 1928 has a president or vice president not run for the presidency. Furthermore, many high-ranking Republicans either lost their sets or were involved in scandals.

Here are the top 10 reasons why I believe John McCain will win the 2008 presidential election:

10. McCain is a man of character. He was held captive as a prisoner of war for five and a half years in Vietnam, and he has faithfully served in the United States government since he returned to the United States.

9. McCain supports the reform of the Army Corps of Engineers, and he wants to prevent future catastrophes. He wants to work with Democrats to try to avoid the horrible consequences of the Katrina Hurricane in the future.

8. McCain upholds the Geneva Conventions and opposes the torturing of terrorists.

7. McCain supports a policy on North Korea that holds the nation accountable for nuclear tests.

McCain concisely delcared his views: "To those who suggest we should offer benefits to North Korea beyond those already presented in the six party talks, or that we should now engage in direct talks with Pyongyang, I urge that we not reward the regime's threatening behavior. It would be the height of folly to reward this lawless rogue regime with diplomatic benefits, including the bilateral talks it seeks. In the 1990s we nurtured Kim Jong-il's expectation that threats of attack will garner benefits, when the United States agreed to provide fuel oil and construct two civilian nuclear reactors in return for a freeze on Pyongyang's nuclear weapons programs. Mr. Kim cheated on that agreement, and now the world faces a nuclear-armed North Korea."

6. McCain has a sense of humor and he doesn't mind laughing at himself.

5. McCain acknowledges when he is wrong. He has supported the War in Iraq; however, he has argued that the current tactics are not working and that the United States will either have to commit more troops and change tactics or leave Iraq.

4. McCain clearly states his beliefs and positions on issues. He doesn't use political speech to tip-toe around controversial issues.

3. McCain champions campaign finance reform, and he has fought against political corruption. He co-authored the McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Bill.

2. McCain is a public maverick. He has often voted how he thinks is right even when the party leadership disagreed with him.
