Have you ever had friends, both single and married, where the single one
would say they're lonely and wished that they were married or in a
relationship, and the married wishing they were single? It can make for
some interesting and amusing conversations to be sure, however serious
they may be at the time of the discussion. Don't we all seem to want what
we don't have, or what someone else has, including lifestyles? Either way,
in order to be happy in life, one must see the advantages of their own
individual circumstances. However, there are advantages and valid reasons
to savor the single life.
Here are some things that might just make you envious (if you happen to be
married):
1) The top reason would definitely have to be the freedom you have when
living alone. You are able to come and go as you please, without having to
either ask for someone's permission, or be inconvenienced by another person's
schedule.
2) You don't have to clean up after someone else's mess. The mess you live
in might just be your own, and you can choose when you want to clean it. If
you're a neat freak, you won't have to pick up wet towels off the bathroom
floor or clean out hair from the sinks or pick up dirty plates from under the
sofa. OR, if you're the messy type, no one else is there to notice.
3) The money you earn can be spent on yourself, or whatever you choose to
spend it on, providing you're meeting your bills of course. Your entire
paycheque is pretty much yours and yours alone to do with how you please.
4) You can watch whichever show you like, not having to worry about sitting
in front of the tv, watching something you'd rather not, for hours on end. You
can choose the movies or programs you enjoy. Another added bonus, is that you
yourself, will have full control over the remote control!
5) You can eat what and when you want. You don't have to have a set schedule
for each meal, nor do you have to cook or eat something you might dislike. You
can even choose to dine out or call for take-out if that is your desire any
night of the week.
6) The entire bed belongs to you! There's no one hogging the covers, snoring
in your ear, expelling gas, or tossing and turning, keeping you awake all night.
You can stretch out as much as you want, getting a peaceful, restful sleep. You
can even sleep in on your days off, for however long you choose.
7) You can be with a variety of people (if that is your choosing). If one
person gets on your nerves, or you don't like them for one reason or another,
you can distance yourself from them. You definitely do not have to put up with
someone else's indiosyncrasies and annoying little habits if they're not to your
liking.
8) Often times, when you're in a relationship, you might find that they start
trying to "change" you. Either your hair is wrong, the way your dress is wrong
or they try to rearrange the way you live. This is something that you can very
much avoid when being single and just continue to be yourself.
9) You have the freedom to decorate your home or apartment in your own tastes
and styles, picking the colors or furniture that suits you. There are no
arguments over who wants what and where things should be placed.
10) Last, but certainly not least, you can choose whether to shave or not,
depending on your own mood. Unless you plan on going out for the evening, or
have a job where you have to keep a well maintained appearance, you can just
let that slide for a day or two, or for as long as you like.
Hmm....Being single is sounding pretty good to me right now!
