Writing has long been many people's dreams and there are so many would be authors who we will never have the chance to read. The Internet has opened doors to many that for so long have been closed. The question remains, can a person make a living off of writing?
Blogging.
Blogging has taken the world by storm and there are now literally billions of blogs online. Some will be read by a tiny handful of individuals, others will see thousands, and a few will actually make money. Those that have made money with blogs have done very well for themselves. Two great examples are Darren the Problogger (responsible for the site ProBlogger) and Steve Pavlina. Both of these men have done very well writing and sharing what they know on the Internet. Both Darren and Steve are said to make a six figure income and last year, Steve did the million dollar project where he asked readers to give donations and collected well over a million dollars!
It can be done, but it isn't easy. After all, there are literally billions of blogs online. You can use a blog to write what you know and make money off of it, but it takes work and it isn't easy. You have to work hard, produce a lot of content (they suggest updating 6 or more times a week and at the very least three).
Writing Articles.
There are now tons of different sites that allow you to write content on a revenue sharing business. Some do this through performance pay, others share Google Adsense page impressions, and still others have unknown methods of revenue sharing but use this to pay their writers. No matter how it is done you can write lots of articles and make an income that is worth talking about. It takes a lot of work, dedication, and content, but it can indeed be done.
Personal Experience.
I was once told that writing was really a waste of time. This person informed me that the average freelancer makes about $6,000 a year from his or her writing. This is certainly not enough to live off of. However, I have worked hard to begin making a living off of the net. I have high goals for this become a very large and secure method of money making. I began almost seven months ago, writing for online websites and blogs. The first month I made a few pennies, the second a few dollars, the third $300, the fourth $200, the fifth $500, the sixth $550, and this month I should earn about $800-1000. It isn't enough to call a full time income yet, but it has grown, continues to grow, and shows no signs of slowing down. I feel very confident that I can make it into an income worth talking about.
On the same note, I feel very confident that you can do it as well as long as you are willing to stick with it. Most writers struggle to get anything published and to make a living once they are published. However, you can now share what you know writing online (even fiction) and make a living. It takes a lot of work and a lot of dedication, but it can be done!
