When speaking of easy to learn card games, two all time favorites come to mind. The first being battleship and the second being slap jack. Both games are easy to learn and offer an entertaining way to pass the time.
BATTLESHIP
Setup for a game of battleship begins by dividing the cards evenly amounst all players. Once the cards have been evenly distributed, the game is ready to begin. Players are not allowed to look at their cards or sort them in any specific order. To start the game, all player filp the first card in their stack simultaneously. The player showing the highest card wins and takes all of their opponents cards which were flipped over. If two or more players show the same high card, the a battle takes place. Before the battle begins, each player participating in the battle places the next card in their stack face down over the card which preceeded the battle. Once all participants have played their card face down, another card is flipped over. The player with the highest card wins the battle and gains control of all cards played during the entire hand. Sometimes opponents my flip over matching cards during a battle. In this scenario, the same rules apply as they do in a regular battle. Play one card face down, then flip another card for the battle. The object of the game is to win all of your opponents cards. Once a single player has control of all 52 cards, that player wins.
SLAP JACK
Setup is identical to that of battleship. Play may begin once the cards have been evenly distrubuted amoungst all players. The game starts by having one player turn over a card and toss it into the area where the game is being played. Players repeat the same action in a clockwise manner. All players should be watching for a jack to be flipped over. Once a jack is flipped over, the first player to slap the jack keeps it along with all the cards beneath it. Play continues in this fashion until one player obtains all 52 cards in the deck. The player with all 52 cards, wins the game.
These two games are great for smaller children that may not yet understand more difficult card games. It's a great way to pass time and can be very entertaining as well. Adults can enjoy these games as well.
