How to create a blog

It has never been easier or quicker to create a blog. Whether you choose to host your blog via a free blogging service, or whether you choose to host your blog on your own, the possibility and options available to you are nearly limitless. Here are the basic steps you can take in order to create a blog:

1. Decide what the purpose of your blog will be. Do you want to use your blog to promote a point of view? Do you want to use it to write about a hobby? Do you want to use your blog to make money or promote a product? Do you just want to have a blog to talk about anything whatsoever? Having a clear picture of why you want a blog will help you as you set out to create that blog.

2. Decide where to host your blog. There are many different free services at which you can create a blog. Blogger, WordPress and LiveJournal are just a few of these services. On the other hand, if you want to create a blog hosted on your own server, you can register a domain name and purchase hosting services through a company such as GoDaddy. If you want to make money with your blog or sell a product with your blog, you probably want to host the blog on your own, rather than via a free service. Using a free service will, generally, require less technical skill than hosting your own blog, however.

3. Once your blog is set up, it is time to choose a theme. Regardless of the sort of blog you have, there are usually a variety of themes and designs that you can choose from. You can even modify your own theme, or you can pay someone to make your own unique theme.

4. Register your blog with the various search engines. Visit Google, Yahoo and MSN Search. Submit your blog's URL to these databases so that people will be able to find your blog.

5. Start writing! The most successful blogs will have new posts almost every day.

6. Network with others. Visit related blogs, or visit message boards that cover the same topic as your blog. Refer people to your blog from these web sites. Learn to use tools like StumbleUpon, Digg and Twitter to increase the exposure of your blog.

7. Monetize your blog. Install Google AdSense or affiliate programs for products related to your blog's topics.
