Poetry: Good-bye

Don't Come See Me (On My Last Good-Bye)

I'm a prisoner, in this here jail,
I'm serving time, it's a living hell.
Day by day, the tensions draw high,
Don't come see me, on my last good-bye.

I look forward, to visitation day
When you come see me, with words you say.
"I still love you, and I always will."
I can't deter you, on how you feel.

I'm marked for death, for a crime I've done,

I know I shouldn't have, but I did run.
I'm really innocent, it was self-defense,
For a fight, that didn't make sense.

It wasn't meant to be, but the poor man died,
Evidence is stacked against me, I know I'm fried.
I hope for freedom, but it doesn't look good,
My trial isn't going the way it should.

So you to say to me, "Hush my sweet dear,
There is no need, to live in fear.
Trust in God dear, he'll set you free,
He knows the truth, and you will see."

"I believe you, my darling dear,
But it's hard, not to live in fear.
When I leave this God forbidden place,
I won't never forget, your lovely face.

"The day will come when they strap me in
Electricity will flow, it'll burn my skin.
I don't need you here, to see me fry,
Don't come see me, on my last good-bye."

"My days are numbered, the time is near
The closer it gets, the more I fear.
I may be guilty, for what I've done,
If I had stood there, instead of run."

"Time won't change things," I hear you say,
"What's done is done, you can only pray."
"The good Lord will save you, trust me dear,
Ask for forgiveness, and hold Him near."

My final day, is now upon me
Before I walk, I fall down to my knee.
God forgive me, for what I've done
I need You to be, my number one.

Make it painless, as the current flows,
Take me quick, so nobody knows.
The fear I showed, as I sat there,
Shaking away, in that electric chair.

I died I know, an innocent man
Now, I stand, next to God's hand.
Thank you God, for saving my soul,
Making me clean, and making me whole.

But my body shell sat limp, in that chair,
I looked at the crowd, that gathered there.
Even as a spirit, I began to cry,
You came to see me, on my last good-bye.

    SAYING GOOD-BYE

Looking in you eyes I saw the pain.
    I saw the suffering.
    I held your hand.
You looked at me and smiled.
