At first, I was a huge fan of powder eyeshadow nearly every brand made its way into my purse, and on my vanity desk. I was addicted, just as I was enthralled with every tidbit dealing with fashion and beauty. Call me a fanatic but as pathetic that may seem it was the truth.
I first was turned on to creme eyeshadow when I picked up Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow. It was back in January of 2007 and I was trying to add some pizzazz to my eyes. In other words, I wanted to "experience luminous, enchanting eyes." The sensuality of this phrase hooked me. I had to buy it!
Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow comes in twelve palettes, each containing four shades. Out of these, I have Wild Orchids (701), Pink Petals (705), Moonlight Jewels (720) and Precious Metals (715). The rest of the eyeshadows are Copper Canyon, Va Va Va Bloom, Twilight, Not Just Nudes, Skinlights, Khaki Suede, Seashells and Coastal Blues.
At first, I was impressed by how rich the colors looked. Then when I applied the eyeshadow to my eyelids, I marveled at how easily each shade blended seamlessly into one another. I devoted nights (and mornings) to experimenting with different shades from each of the palettes that I had.
To my dismay, no matter how much I blended, the creme eyeshadow looked greasy and unappealing. Then it was the fact that after a few hours, the creme eyeshadow would crease. After the first time that I noticed this, I started to play with it some more.
First, I applied powder eyeshadow then the creme eyeshadow. The second time around, I applied the creme eyeshadow then the powder to set it. Still, it creased to my dissatisfaction.
The third time, I applied a little bit of foundation to my eyelids. I figured the foundation, acting as a base, was crucial for the creme eyeshadow to stay on. Applying powder then creme and vice versa didn't make a difference.
The product was just bound to crease no matter what measures or techniques I took to make it stay throughout the day.
After comprehending this annoying setback, I became upset with myself because instead of buying one as a tester, I bought four. Each cost around $7. I wasted around $30 on a product that looked great in the packaging but not so great in appearance.
It's sad because I mostly used only about two shades in each palette. The other two either were extremely unflattering or didn't appeal to me. I did like the shimmer even though it was a bit too much at times.
In conclusion, Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow is a neutral product in my opinion. I just wish the texture didn't appear greasy on the skin and didn't crease.
