Greek mythology: Hermes

The Olympian God Hermes was the messenger of the Gods and as responsibility had the transportation of people souls from the real world to the underworld. He was also the protector of the rebels, of the gambling games, the sacrifices celebrities, the travel, the magic and the trade.

Hermes father was the leader of the Gods, the powerful Zeus and his mother was Maia one of the daughters of the giant Atlas, who holding the world on his shoulders.

Hermes combines with the human and the divine elements, is considered as the first master of the human race, the one who introduced the letters and the science to human and taught the use of intellect. Hermes is very active and usually helps people. Relative myths reports:

During the war between Gods and Titans, Hermes kills Ipolitus and helps his father Zeus to eliminate Typhoeus.

Later, commissioned by his father to steal Io. Initially, make the guard to fall at sleep while his playing with his lyre and then killed him.

Then, releases the God of the war Ares, who was imprisoned by the giants Alopades into a large bronze pot.

Conveys Frixus and Ellie on the gold ram which Hermes gave to Nefeli.

Helps Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, just before he meet sorceress Kirki front of her palace. Hermes gave to Odysseus an antidote to avoid any magic.

Helps Odysseus one more time when Calypso prevented the king of Ithaca from leaving her place because she was in love with him by carrying message of Zeus.

Hermes also gave a large diamond sickle to Perseus in order to kill Medusa.

Hermes was the one who lead Hera, Athena and Aphrodite front of Paris a while before the Trojan Was start.

Instead of the myths people like him much and during the Classical and the Hellenistic Period in Greece, Hermes appears in art as a strong and handsome young man usually without clothes, with a robe only over his shoulders and other times as mature man and bearded god.

And many many more myths about Hermes. Homer, Pindar, Aeschylus, Aesop, Herodotus, Plato, Strabo are some of the ancient Greek scientist were mentioned in Hermes in their creations.
