Similar to a picture is worth a million words a car is worth a million memories. The 1950 Ford Coupe reminds us of a simpler time when cars were built to impress, and cruising the strip in town was the hottest thing to do on a Saturday night. Images of first dates, proms and maybe even a drag racing event or two come alive within your mind when one of these vintage classics strolls up next to you at a stop light. Sleek design, deep colors and polished chrome are some of the small details that excite both the young and young at heart.
Owning a 1950 Ford Coupe is an investment that grows financially and with your memories. This car didn't cost over $2500 brand new but today rebuilt models go for well over $25,000. For most car owners and admirers the memories are priceless. If the outside doesn't impress go inside for a look at the Ford emblem on the steering wheel that is much larger than in today's models. The dash is outlined in chrome, a stereo for your favorite tunes and the seating inside is picture perfect for a couple to snuggle up close while driving down the open road.
According to The Classic Ford website in the article Facts about Ford (http://www.theclassicford.com /1950_Ford_production.htm) only 35,120 Ford Business Coupe, 85,111 Club Coupe and 50,299 Convertible Coupes were produced in 1950. Under the hood is where the changes take place. Originally this car had two options for engines the 6 cylinder or the V8. Power was the name of the game when strutting your stuff in these machines. Men became men by driving one and women fell in love when they drove up to the house. Even if you weren't lucky enough to own one or grow up in a time when they were everywhere an instant appreciation is born.
Lucky for all of us who were born later in life many of these cars have been preserved or brought back to life. Viewing them can be done on Saturday afternoons at local car shows. If looking isn't your thing a handful of reconditioned models are available on line through private owners or dealers. But if an adventure is what you are looking for then find one that you can rebuild on your own. No matter what they look like these cars can be restored to their rightful beauty. Making memories of your own and building a reputation as you enjoy bringing a legend back to life.
