Freelance writing

Freelance writing is perhaps the best profession that a person can have. The sense of self-satisfaction, the flexibility and the financial rewards that come with freelance writing are unmatched in almost any other profession. Still, freelance writing isn't always easy. Sometimes, freelance writing requires you to work harder and with longer hours that people in other professions.

Freelance writing simply means that you write for clients, rather than an employer or a publisher who has hired you. You sell your writing services to companies and individuals who want to use your writing for a variety of purposes. A freelance writer is, essentially, a small business owner. A career in freelance writing means being able to have some marketing, sales, and business skills.

There are more available markets for freelance writers today than there have ever been. Opportunities for freelance writers abound on the Internet. Whether it is writing content for someone else's web site or whether it is earning a living from the revenue-sharing that takes place at article directories like Helium, the possibilities are nearly endless. This doesn't even take into account more traditional freelance writing jobs, such as writing for print magazines and newspapers.

To be successful at freelance writing, you have to be dedicated. You have to write every day. You have to know when to take a given job, and when to pass one up. Sometimes, you will barely make it by as a freelance writer; other times, you will have so many different contracts and writing jobs that you can hardly keep up. Sometimes you will have a week off at a time; sometimes, you will be working on Christmas eve in order to get a project finished for a big client. Freelance writing is almost never steady, but it is almost always worth it.

The good news is that there are literally hundreds of experienced freelance writers online who can share their experiences with you. By learning from the successes (and failures) of others, you can only increase your chances for success in the freelance writing world.
