The best remedy for dry, brittle, over processed hair is coconut oil. I use coconut oil once a week, I leave it on overnight and wash it off in the morning. The good thing about coconut oil is that it doesn't leave a weird odor in your hair.
As a small child, I have memories of my mom massaging my head/ hair with warm coconut oil in the evenings. It was so relaxing and it helped me fall asleep quickly.
In the morning after my hair was washed it would be so soft and silky, not only that, it seemed to be fuller as well.
I was one of the lucky people who grew up in a tropical country where coconut oil was produced and was in the purest state. All of my Indian friends had thick, long, shiny, beautiful hair so it wasn't a big deal. The day I moved to the US I noticed people staring at my hair. I rarely have seen even teenagers in this country with nice hair. There are some here and there, but that's about all. I must say I haven't seen too many women' with nice healthy hair either. So this article is for all of you women out there, buying a "treatment" from a salon or store isn't the best thing unless it is made from natural ingredients. If you see even one word you can't pronounce in your so-called "treatment" steer away. All these products will give you short term satisfaction and in the long run do more harm than good.
This is a very popular ritual in India, almost all of the women do this treatment at least once a week.
Now as an adult I still massage my head with coconut oil and then I massage it into my hair. I like to apply it about an hour or so before going to bed. It relaxes me and helps me fall asleep and stay asleep all night long. It's just the combination of the warm oil and the massage that is so magical.
The oil washes off very easily with shampoodon't forget the conditioner for extra softness. The coconut oil has immediate and long term benefits. In the long run it makes less brittle and stronger.
You have to purchase a food grade coconut oil in order to be sure that there are no other mineral oils added to it, you want pure coconut oil, and that is what the hair craves.
Almost every person I meet asks me how I keep my hair looking so youthful in my 30's. My only secret is coconut oil. I also try not to over style my hair on days I know I will be home. So go ahead buy some food grade coconut oil, warm it up and apply! You will thank me later!
