Many people think that merchanting is the best way to make money. Other people say that hacking is the way to go. Especially after the wealth exchange, i think that skills are an even better way because you get yourself a higher total level and get yourself on the high scores.
WARNING: YOU WILL NEED TO WORK HARD! HACKING WILL GET YOU NOWHERE!
Mining: People don't really mine for money but i do. it may take some time to get to the real money making ore, but you can also earn 1 million coins on the way to the better ore. just keep every ore you mine since level 1, then sell it at the grand exchange. My best friend got 1.3 million off copper and tin ore. he just started to keep it and hes at level 69 mining now. So just mine and keep all your ore, then when the time is right, sell it!
Woodcutting: OK, this may not be the most exciting of all the skills and trust me, i would know. But if you hang in there long enough to get 60 woodcutting (yes, 60. no one says hard work is easy...) then you could cut yews. now yews sell anywhere from 300-400 coins each on the grand exchange. the price is always jumping so i have no solid amount. Anyways, even with 300 coins each, you still make 10-11k for 28. Also these are helpful for fletching (i will talk about in a minute).
Fletching: I'm no genius but I'm pretty sure this is a sure fire way to get some cash. For this skill you will need, woodcutting, smithing, and crafting.starting out making bronze arrows isn't that bad, but when you start making better arrows, enchanting them with magic if you want to, you will start getting big cash.
Smithing: Now this skill is associated with mining. You could either keep your stockpile of ore, or smelt them. I do half and half, meaning, i smelt half and i sell half that way i will have some skill for fletching. Plus, if you fletch and smelt you could get to high levels in no time.
Crafting: This may not be the easiest skill, but it is worth the work. I started my crafting by getting balls of wool and spinning them along with getting cowhides and tanning them, then turning them into armor. when you get to gem cutting (sapphires, emeralds, and Ruby's) go to somewhere populated and say "giving crafting assistance!" (then list the gems you can cut). the reason why you give assistance and not take it is because you GET experience when you GIVE assistance. When someone GIVES YOU assistance, you are GIVING THEM experience.
Fishing & Cooking: No skill is ever fun when you work really hard on it, but it pays. Lots and lots of shiny coins. get a small net and fish near the swamps. then get 20 fishing and a fly fishing rod and go to the goblin house in lumbridge. then get 40 fishing and go to karajma and fish lobsters. now cooking makes the thing your fishing more expensive so when you sell it you get more. i suggest cook everything you fish, which should help alot.
