Be your own boss, work flexible hours, do what you love at your own pace. These are the advantages we often hear about setting up a home office. Often, what we don't hear about is what should this office look like, how should this office operate, how do we attract clients, how will it all work, will it look professional, will clients feel comfortable with our abilities, will we be able to ask for the right fees and charges.
When it comes to making a decision, we are very visual people. We will base our decision on what we see or perceive, or how comfortable or familiar something appears to us. A business card, a color or a logo can say so much about us and our business.
It appears that image is everything in today's market. Image will provide us with an attention grabbing visual to get noticed by prospective buyers. Image will make buyers aware of our goods and services and hopefully make them consider our business in this highly competitive business world.
A home office like any office needs to look professional, competent and capable. We are fortunate that communication equipment has become affordable and readily available. Today's home office is often fitted out with very sophisticated equipment.
This equipment now provides us with access to a world wide market. A home office is no longer confined to a small playing field. As long as you can provide the service, the information or the article at a competitive cost and within a time frame, you can compete on any level market anywhere.
The office image is not just related to the building itself and the smartly dressed person or people within it, but the total package of web design, marketing material, business cards and correspondence. These materials represent the business itself. They create an impression, a vision or an idea when presented to a prospective client.
Unless you have some talent in image creating it would probably be best to invest some time and money employing an image consultant.
Before you do, consider the following,
What is my product or service?
What is my market?
Who are my clients?
What is my 12 month plan, 5 year plan, 10 year plan?
What sort of image am I seeking? Professional and vibrant, skillful and accomplished, hi tech, homely and unpretentious, informal and comfortable, pulsating and energetic, technical or industrial.
