The Shades of Jazz on Noir project

texture and dynamism of modern improvisation. Adding a big band - Bad Big City Band, and a combo - Freak Lip Kill Band, to play the music results in a unique, growth-oriented experience for fans of jazz and film as well. Audiences will experience the music with film noir as it could have been."

The project is a sensory experience meant for audiences to hear improvised music being played throughout the films showing, so immortalizing the experience on DVD would weaken its goal as Ordonez assures, "The film is a documentary not a commercial project (DVD). It is used as a tool for improvisers and aimed to be shown in schools, festivals, jazz clubs, which occurred in Luxembourg and Bimhuis, Amsterdam." She confirms, "We searched for more venues, particularly universities because of the pedagogic aim of the project."

Each showing is individual to the avant-garde musicians who are performing in the theaters as the documentary is being played. In order to accomplish this task, Ordonez chose musicians who would be best at communicating human emotions through music, and who would be available at the individual venues. She personally chose the musicians and is enthusiastic about her choices as she relays, "Angelica Sanchez has a radiance about her that everyone can detect. She also plays great classical piano along with her ability as an improviser. I love her work, and we all agreed to invite her as our very special guest for the premiere."

Ordonez relishes the unique stylistics of Danish saxophonist Lotte Anker and asserts, "Her intensity of playing and glottal punctuation as well as her vast knowledge of improvisation is just amazing."

She touts, "The music of Serbian violist Szilard Mazai is fabulous and of great impact on Eastern European music. I invited him for his high skills, qualities and sensitivity."

She applauds, "Hungarian saxophonist Viktor Tth as well as bassists Matyas Szandai and Robert Benk are accomplished artists on the Hungarian and European scene; Anna Zielinska is a talented young Polish violinist; her musical roots are classically oriented yet she possesses a brilliant ability to improvise." She endorses, "Dave Ballou, besides being such a great instrumentalist, is also very warm and gracious person. David Chevan is a fantastic bass player and jazz pedagogue."

She provides, "I was introduced to the music of pianist Carl Maguire through bassist Mark Dresser. I'm familiar with his work and I have reviewed his music in the past. Carl Maguire performs
