Finding "cheap" hotels in any major city is always a challenge. In addition you need to define cheap. I have found a selection of lodgings (hotels, motel and B&B )that run from about $100 to a little under $200. In some cases you get what you pay for, in others they are unexpected treasures.

This is what it is, a motel but it has one of the best prices in downtown Chicago. Not only was I able to find a king bedded room for $109 but it also includes free parking which is a really big deal. The rooms are motel rooms with standard amenities, color cable (with HBO) TV, coffee maker, electronic door locks and clock radio. The rooms are good size but if you want a fridge and microwave you need to upgrade to a king suite. The front desk is open 24/7.

This is a pet friendly hotel where your pooch or kitty can stay once you have paid a $50 deposit. There is a restaurant Cafe Luna attached but breakfast is not included, for these prices who cares. This hotel is located in the River north district about 1 mile from the Art Institute and a mile and from Chicago Historical Society. The $109 rate was for September, in May rates began a $139 but with a AAA discount went down to $125.10. They can be as high as $169 so book early for the best price.

Located in a historic building that has been restored this hotel offers private if a bit cramped rooms with all the amenities. Free high speed wireless Internet Cable TV with remote control, On Demand movies and both smoking and non-smoking rooms. Hair dryer/make-up mirror are provided as is a coffee maker. A nice feature is that entrance is restricted to guests so you can feel quite secure.

Rooms can be had for less than $100 if you plan your trip right. Night have been offered on Priceline and other discounted sites. The location is good just steps off Michigan Avenue. Trip Advisor readers have given it a 4 out of 5 rating. That is pretty impressive for a bargain hotel.
