When life gets rough
and the going gets tough
the tough wait out the storm
When the sky is dark
and the sun has fled
little ones should be in bed
The stars will peek
for us to seek
and you'll find the weather's warm
No one will speak of danger deep
in the night we shut our eyes
Hoping that good luck will keep
with dreams and lies and dragonflies
Oh-so softly counting sheep
and waiting just to fall asleep
They bid goodnight to all their fears
and ignored the fast-approaching years
They say their prayers and count their blessings
although not a soul will hear
Streets are red under blacklight
they count money instead of doing what's right
The bet was changed and out broke a fight
all is quiet in the night
When the sun has risen
they will rise
shaking off a cute disguise
now it is their time to shine or hide
or just sit back and enjoy the ride
When life gets rough
and the going gets tough
the tough wait it out inside

When I lay down to sleep at night
An evil thought goes through my head
I think about the fight we had
When you told
I stand like a Tree
surrounded by City.
Harsh, cold concrete binds my roots!
I shift uneasily in this
Unwelcoming ground,

It has been around since before my birth
And believe you me, nothing is worse
Than this big
I'm sitting on my porch steps with the urge to cry-
waiting for the phone to ring, ready to die.
The stomach tosses and turns
Where is this place called Dignity
Where is this place called dignity?
There was a time I thought I knew
with certainty,
yet
