Army life is interesting though I've only tasted it on a part time basis for a period of 8 years in the U.S. Army reserves.
I was military brat growing up on an air force base as well.
I've seen the positives and the negatives associated with military life.
Based on your reasoning behind joining and what the desired outcome expected is for you individually is what's important.
Each branch of the military has a certain flare and offers each candidate something different. I recommend a thorough research of each branch of the military to figure out which interest you more. Find out about the various jobs available before signing up for one. If you find out that you are not qualified for what you really want to do while serving, consider waiting and attempting to meet the qualifications.
A short or long term career is to be had with the military. Starting at a young age can afford the opportunity to retire at an early age; therefore, allowing for a second career where you are well qualified and experienced.
Travel, Benefits, Training, Personal Growth and country honor are a few things to be enjoyed when looking at the military.
The flip side is that death can and may occur during times of war. In not to many jobs does one have to worry about death as an obstacle to avoid.
