How to make fried rice

Easy fried rice in seconds!

One of the many symbols that tend to characterise Chinese culture and cuisine is Chinese rice, also known as fried rice. This is probably the most famous East Asian style of cooking rice and happens to be extremely easy to prepare. Rice is the staple food in East Asian countries and Chinese Fried Rice is the main dish cooked in most Chinese homes and served in most Chinese restaurants and is one that has been served as a definition to Chinese cuisine across other parts of Asia and the rest of the globe.

What You need for easy fried rice:

2 cups Rice
3 tbsp Oil
1 Onion Finely Sliced
2 Carrot Finely Chopped
100 gms Beans Finely Chopped
100 gms Cabbage Finely Chopped
2 Spring Onions Finely Chopped
2-3 Green Chilies cut lengthwise
1 tsp Ginger Chopped Finely or grated
1 tsp Garlic Finely Chopped (1 tsp of garlic paste could be used as a substitute)
2 tbsp Soya Sauce
Salt & pepper to taste

Preparation:

Wash and soak two cups of Basmati rice for a few minutes and then drain.
Boil the rice and add 1 tsp of oil and a pinch of salt.
Cook either covered or uncovered on low heat until rice is tender.
Be sure not overcook the rice, or else it will result in the rice becoming sticky.
When the rice is boiled drain it and add some cold water to it, then drain again.
Make sure to drain all the water completely.
Then heat oil in a large pan (preferably a large wok), and stir fry all the chopped vegetables for about three minutes, allowing the vegetables to become crisp but not overdone.
Mix in the desired amount of salt and pepper to taste.
Then add the cooked rice and mix well.
Next add the soya sauce to the rice and mix again.
Cook further for about three minutes and serve while hot.

This meal could be eaten as a main, whilst Chinese crab or chicken and sweet corn soup could be served as a starter.
Fried rice could be served with a sweet and sour chicken or fish, as well as with Chinese-style steamed vegetables with tofu. Hot butter cuttle fish is a popular Chinese dish adds spice to the meal.
The ideal dessert for this meal would be Chinese-style fried ice cream or lychee's with vanilla ice cream.
