The ideal fitness routine is flexible to fit in with your lifestyle, and combines cardiovascular activity with weights or resistance training. With more emphasis on the cardiovascular workout, aim to exercise daily to five times per week for an hour to half an hour per day. (Reaching 10 000 steps is more important, however, than how the amount of time you do it in.) This way you should burn more calories than you consume.
Hydrate
Water is proven to aid weight loss, especially if it is replacing your high calorie drinks like soda and juice. Similarly, avoid caffeine and limit your coffee intake. (You need two extra cups of water for every cup of coffee). Green Tea has recently taken the lime light in weight loss. By drinking 4 to 6 cups daily the polyphenols may increase fat burning and the metabolism.
Hormones & Mood
The pituitary gland is central to the function of a balanced body and mind. By no means, is it to be suggested that we all go on an anti-depressant craze. Rather, it is advisable that you work at keeping your psyche in harmony with your hormones. Depression can send the hormones sliding down to below average ranges; where the metabolism goes into survival mode and therefore slows down, storing fat as the body believes hard times are approaching. People who are more prone to weight gain are typically those who hold everything inside, reluctant to let others see their pain, stress, or troubles. Be sure to talk regularly about your thoughts and record them. There are certain herbal or Chinese medicines available that can help boost your mood initially, such as SAM-E or Hypericum Perforatum, more commonly known as Saint John's Wort.
Pills
Alternatively, there are drugs that are designed to boost your metabolism and therefore aid weight loss. A pill that raises your metabolic rate is the only advisable drug in the weight loss industry; Blackmores is a particularly advisable brand. However, treat any form of "quick fix" or pill with caution. For, they do not work at resolving the reasons for your weight gain. If used in conjunction with the above methods, you should soon be on your way to long term success.
