When I was a girl, I would dream of traveling the world. I could see myself touring each state in a little hippie van. I desired to see all that this planet had to offer. I really had big plans.
As I became an adult, I planted roots that didn't allow much time for traveling. I didn't venture much out into the world so I never gave much thought to the concept of going many places. Once I was in the position that I could move around, I did.
Again, I got starry eyed. Instead of talking about it, I actually did it, a little. I visited relatives in a few states here and there. I saw Michigan in the snow. I saw Illinois in the warm weather. I visited Florida in all seasons. I have been to Georgia and South Carolina. I have been to North Carolina and Kentucky. I have drove through many states I don't remember. I have seen many places that I will never forget.
The most memorable state of all is Virginia, although very little people seem to travel here. When I saw this beautiful state, I knew I had found my home. It didn't take me long to settle here in this beautiful part of country paradise. I was mesmerized by the countryside. I have found tranquility in my surroundings.
There are so many things that attracted me to Virginia. Those things are still here. There are many friendly faces. People always smile and wave when they pass by. Visitors aren't considered as outcasts. Everyone is welcome and we are all friends. I live in a small community, I was instantly accepted.
Virginia is the home of many beautiful pieces of scenery. Here in my area, which is on the Gate City/Norton line is a wonderful spot called High Knob Mountain. There is a lookout tower there that allows you to see in all directions. On a clear day, you can view seven states.
There are two waterfalls that will take your breath away. They are called Little and Big Stoney. There are many hiking and nature trails located throughout the mountainous areas of Virginia. You can even visit historically significant areas. Be sure to check out the Natural Tunnel.
The beauty is in my backyard. It is the place that has tamed me. There are bright beautiful colors surrounding me. I can dance barefoot in the meadows. I can sit by one of the many streams. I can stare at the fluffy blue clouds above me. I am in heaven here in Virginia. My heart is at home.
