Reflections: My dog

I have been owned by my dog, Heely, for a few years now. I don't remember exactly when he showed up. I can't remember life before him and I wouldn't want to imagine life after him. He is the sweetest gentlest creature I know.

Heely is a medium sized dog. He is a border-collie mix, and is no less than eight years old. He is an outside dog for the most part but he is not kept on a leash. We live in the country so he can come and go in the woods around us as he pleases. Mostly, he just lies on an old chair on the porch.

I never had many dogs before but I got Heely but his personality goes well with mine. He is a very sweet and loving animal. He will stay right at my feel whenever I am outside. He will lay his head on my lap and nuzzle close to me. He loves to cuddle.

Heely is a very gentle soul. He would never hurt a thing. He has shared his food with many animals over the years. He doesn't bother anything and he expects them to return the favor. He stays at home and doesn't bother the neighbors.

My dog is respectful. If someone shows up he barks once, to let us know they are there. He doesn't bark constantly. He doesn't howl or whine (unless his arthritis is bothering him.) He doesn't chase cars.

My dog is a protector. He guards my house. He cares for his brother, a tiny recently acquired kitten. He doesn't allow harm to the pet chicken. He always follows my son to the creek for an adventure. He loves to chase the four-wheeler around the field but he never goes in the road.

He loves to eat scraps. He is a big fan of my cooking but he never begs. He would actually prefer to eat human food. He doesn't potty in the yard. He's pretty much given up digging up my flower gardens. For the most part, he is a well-behaved dog.

My dog is grateful. He will run to the car when I pull in and wait on me to open the door. He will then greet me and jump up and down because he is so excited to see me. He is a big reason for my smile.

Heely is the best dog I could ever ask for. He is my partner in crime and my best friend. I have explored many new places with this guy by my side. He is always there. He is faithful and sweet. As I mentioned before, he is unchained. If he wanted to leave, he could. I am glad he has chose to stick around. I am pretty fond of him.
