How to deal with Alzheimer's disease

Association, Council on Aging, and AARP are all good sources to start with when searching for support groups. Community forums and websites are very helpful.

9. Write in a journal or create a blog or website where you can record activities and important memories that you share with your loved one. This will be a valuable resource to you as the time slips by and you'll enjoy reading of happier times that you shared together.

10. Keep things simple! Over-complicating things only makes it harder on you and your loved one. Live life don't anticipate what happens next. Learn to laugh at the little things and not let them ruin your day. Just live for today.

Being diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease is simply finding out that you and your loved one will live life a little differently than you have in the past. But you will LIVE LIFE for as long as you can! Having loved ones who understand the disease and who are willing to help the person continue being a part of daily activities makes a world of difference.

Moving past the initial shock of the diagnosis is difficult but it is the first step in beginning to live again in a different way. Learning to live in the moment and appreciating every single action and every word of every day becomes more important in your life.

The goal is not to allow this illness to suffocate the adventures that still await your loved one after diagnosis, but to help them grasp life as tight as they can as they embark on a glorious ride through the rest of their life!

God bless you and your loved one on this journey!
