It's Christmas 1993 and my 5 year old self opens a brand new Sega Megadrive console- what a day that was! From then on follows months upon months of 16-bit games following the adventures of blue, rather fast hedgehogs and the like. Skip forward 13 years and here I am wearing my fingers to the bone, leading soldiers to war on the frontline, scoring the wining goal in the world cup and thrashing my Ferrari around the most stylish tracks in the world. On a games console of course.

The games console is often the pinnacle of entertainment in many young people's lives and the bain of most parents'. But emerging yourself in a game, away from reality often acts as a breather from the strains of the world, or just a way to relax and chill out. They can be addictive as my own dad found out when i brought my new xbox 360 home from Uni. He was determined to beat me in a race and we spent the next couple of hours burning rubber and touching bumpers in our respective supercars.

I'd challenge anyone who says that the games console and it's culture is a dampening on society. It's purely a means of light entertainment that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, if given a chance.
