Diabetes prevention, control and reversal may take a multitude of remedies to achieve. When your body's fuel delivery system is malfunctioning, meaning that carbohydrates are not smoothly converting into glucose, the body can not give you the energy that it is suppose to normally. The simple sugar glucose is channeled through the bloodstream to your pancreas where insulin is secreted.
For women, especially, who have diabetes can not make their way into the cells properly. Either the pancreas is not making enough insulin or the cells will not deliver the sugar properly. Uncontrolled diabetes can have serious to fatal results. Sugar can build up and damage vessels, nerves, eyes and your kidneys. Circulation will slow making wounds take a much longer time to heal.
Insulin is the number one remedy prescribed by doctors today. While you should never, ever stop taking the insulin and you should discuss all herbal remedies with your health care professional first, there are some herbal teas that have been shown to assist in controlling diabetes.
Research shows that certain spices can help the body use the insulin it has more effectively. To make an herbal tea, using dried ground herbs, put a pinch of bay leaf, cinnamon, cloves and turmeric into a pot of black tea. The best way to drink this flavored tea is to steep it for 20 minutes and then pour the hot tea over a glass of ice and drink it cold.
A Finnish study found that people with Type II diabetes that took 200 milligrams of ginseng every day had a greater control over stabilizing their blood sugar levels. In studies at Purdue University they found "favorable modification by ginseng... and useful pharmacological effects in such conditions as ... diabetes..." The Chinese medical directories of today still report showing ginseng brewed in a cup of tea and drank daily that not only does it promote longevity but also that it stabilizes blood counts in various areas. In recent years there has been a great deal of controversy over ginseng resulting from a number of so called ginseng products actually contained no ginseng in them. Be sure to go to a reputable herbalist to ensure of what herbs you are actually getting.
In Europe, the juice of the dandelion root put into a black tea is still used to treat diabetes believing that the dandelion juice is one of the best herbs for building up the blood in general. The nice part of dandelion is that not only is it an excellent tonic for the blood, its flavor would remind one of sherry.
