The Internet offers such a lucrative market that many creative entrepreneurs use their web sites for their store fronts. Home made crafts, used books, and collectibles can be sold from home. Creative web sites affiliated with drop shipping companies leave the owner with little to do except create more pages offering more products, and pay the drop shipping company its price on sales.
Not only do web sites make the world your market for your products or services, they also are the venue for revenue streams with things like Google's AdSense and affiliate marketing.
The purpose for business is to make profits. Web sites are important to expand the market from which profits are derived, and to derive additional revenue from sources otherwise not available to businesses.
WEB SITES FOR COMPANIES THAT DO NOT CONDUCT BUSINESS OVER THE INTERNET
Though free directories benefit companies that do not conduct business over the Internet, like mechanics, doctors, and restaurants, the free ad pages showing the companies' names are laden with advertising from competitive businesses that pay to appear on the page. Many of these directories offer pages free from competitive ads, but not for free. These sites provide some web presence, but insufficient presence in today's market.
