Style is something we talk about a lot. Who has it, Who doesn't have it, How we can get it. I think style is something that is very personal and as with anything it is all about an individuals perception. There are some people though who have unarguably got style in almost everyones eyes. So what is style and how do we get it?
I don't by any means profess to know everything about style. I think that style is defined by a persons identity, it tells you a little about them and who they are. Style is not about how much someone spends on clothes or whether they wear designer clothes, it is not about whether they are in fashion or their clothes are on trend, it is not about whether they have the figure of a super model. These things can of course go hand in hand with style but equally often they do not. Take for example a dedicated follower of fashion who always buys the latest look as soon as it appears in the shops regardless of whether it suits her. Style is about looking effortless, comfortable and confident in what you are wearing. It is not just about what you wear, it is about how you wear it.
When it comes to style I don't think there are really any rules. I write about style, but I am really only giving ideas and suggestions. The way to look stylish is to wear what really looks good on you and makes you feel great. The confidence that you exude when you know you look and feel great is the key to being stylish. Take a really expensive body con outfit and some outrageously expensive and uncomfortable high high heels, no matter how much money I spent on these items, I would not feel right and so would not look stylish, as they are just not me. Think of the compliments you hear when you wear your favourite outfit and how great this makes you feel, this is what style is about.
For me to look and feel great and therefore, to look (I hope) stylish. I invest in key basics that really suit my body shape, colouring and personality. I then accessorise to add colour and make the look unique. I do follow fashion sometimes, but I am not a slave to it and only ever buy what suits me. I think well fitting clothes that are well made in quality fabrics look most stylish but sometimes I will just buy something regardless of the quality for example a tea dress with a beautiful floral print. My style also changes from season to season and day to day depending on my moods. In summer I tend to wear a lot brighter and bolder colours. In winter I tend to stick to neutrals perhaps accessorised with bright accessories. If I am in mummy mode perhaps for a day out with the children, I might favour the boho look, whilst at work, a tailored look, on holiday in cornwall perhaps a bit of surfer style.
This is the world through my eyes. Style and each persons perception of style is completely unique so be yourself, look good and feel great.
