How to choose habits to help you stay young and healthy

Bad habits can creep into everyday living that deprives you of your vitality, energy and motivation. Choose habits that help you stay young and healthy and be aware of situations that can deplete your health and zap your enthusiasm and quality of life.
Stay alert and interested in what goes on around you, keep your mind and body active, eat well balanced meals, and keep to a routine with rest, relaxation techniques that reduce stress and exercise.

Follow these simple tips and stay young, happy, healthy and full of life and vigor throughout your life no matter what your age.

Keep yourself interested,

Be friendly and greet others with a smile and a simple hello'. Many young people have lost contact with grandparents and would be only too happy to connect with the older generation' given a chance.
If you live on your own, make it a habit to ring one member of your family or a friend each day and have a chat.
Have contact with your children and particularly your grandchildren on a regular basis.
Stay interested in current news.
The more interested you are in people and life around you the more interested others will be in talking to you.

Keep yourself motivated
Don't let lethargy and boredom creep into your life. What are you passionate about? Do you like gardening, chess, knitting, card games, swimming, bingo or something else?
Any hobby or interest is a worthwhile habit as it keeps you motivated and your mind active. You meet like minded people and you have something to share and teach others who may be interested in learning these skills.
Don't underestimate how much you know. Be willing to share your skills, your interests and your experiences.
Learning is life long. Make it a habit to be bold and give new things a try. If you don't try you will never be exposed to something new.
Don't be intimidated by new technology and equipment. Learn how to use the computer, Internet, email and digital camera; these will add a new exciting dimension to your life. Friends and family in far away places will never be too far once you know how to use these new communication tools.

Keep to a routine.
Get up in the morning at a reasonable time, rest during the day if you need to and have a bedtime routine.
Don't nap too late in the afternoon as this will make it hard for you to sleep at night.
