Poetry: Reflections on success, struggle, and happiness

by Betty Rodman

Created on: March 16, 2008

searching for Zen,
we come into this world with nothing.
we leave the world with nothing.
and so, I'll work hard all my life
to end up with nothing.
stripped of all possessions,
I'll leave with nothing.
perhaps a memory I'll leave behind,
as I caste my shadow on the edge of time,
like an atom in the cosmos
in the vastness of eternity;
I am nothing. I am Zen.
for my beginning is also my end.
