Reality television is like a melanoma. It had its initial roots as a small, benign growth diagnosed as "dramality" and has spread into a pop culture phenomenon. With all networks competing for the most off the wall reality show, one question must come to mind? Where in the world do the participants of realty television come from?

For those people living in large, metropolitan areas, at one time the acting industry used the phrase cattle call which simply meant an overwhelming amount of would be actors were trying out for a limited amount of roles. The phrase has been recoined to casting call and the same premise holds true.

But with the barrage of new reality shows hitting the airwaves where do contestants come from? Do the networks have herds of people standing in lines in front of their buildings or have they sequestered them from the streets? Yes, there are still such things as casting agents but in this expanding world of cyberspace are they the only means by which one can become a reality television participant? No, because in actuality interested contestants need only travel as far as their computers to locate casting calls. Casting calls are only a click away.

A recent engine search provided me with what seemed like the tip of the iceberg of possibilities regarding some familiar reality shows and new shows as well. With each website, I have noted only a few of their options:
