Sleep Apnea
In my opinion, I believe the most dangerous of all sleep disorders is Sleep Apnea though the reason I am saying this is because it seems to be hereditary. I have it and several of my sisters have it and my Mom died of complications that resulted from it. The symptoms are falling asleep watching television in early stages perhaps or as I do in front of my Computer screen. Finding yourself waking up at first a few times a night then many, many, times with severe headaches, sore throat & snoring so deep you stop breathing as your throat closes off and doesn't allow the passage of air. When you stop breathing during sleep the body allows this but usually wakes you before you die though it is scary. Even this in itself makes sleeping difficult so you have to rely on meds to make you sleep and most have side effects that cause worse symptoms so instead of getting better you worsen.
Solutions
There are many solutions that are being used today, snore strips (cost too much) and don't always work because they won't help you fall asleep and when you are limited in funds you try to get the most out of them by reusing them but after a couple times they fall off and this keeps you buying more (good for drugstore and Owner of patent not for us). I tried some different drugs like a mild nerve medication which at the time was said cause you to sleep differently and snoring was supposed to decrease. Therefore it would aid you to sleep and these prescriptions were less by far than a month supply of Snore strips especially when you have a drug plan where you only pay 20%. (snore strip aren't eligible)The last time I was to a specialist he said now; these meds are no longer considered to help but actually cause worse symptoms.
Sleep walking
This too can be very dangerous because you may not know where you are walking and could stumble or fall down a stairway but I think most times you are in a semi-conscious state. People go up and down stairs across lawns and most times go back to their own bed. I've done a bit of researching this topic and no one seems to know much about it so it hasn't been studied enough because to study it you would have to find someone who did it regularly. Now you'd need to compare it with a hundred others and it may be hard to find that many people who do walk in their sleep. If it was proved to be a sickness people would show up trying to blame their crimes on sleep walking as one site I checked talked about.
