Reflections: Life necessities

Life's necessities are so broad that we take most of them for granted. The ones we mostly take for granted are the essentials, like oxygen for breath, the atmosphere for protection, sustenance, and providence. We need the sun for external thermal regulation, the waters and food for nutrition and minerals. We need other people to keep us normal, well adjusted, and to keep on procreating. We also need a purpose, which is the propeller that keeps us going on living.

Place
That includes the earth, a home, and a work or some productive environment. We take our land for granted so much that the great flood of Noah's time is nothing more than a distant myth to us. The sinking of Atlantis or Alexandria are fanciful figments of the imagination. India crawling under the great Everest range is unnoticeable but these things happen and we have need of land.
A human home is one of great life's necessitates. One of the saddest things that can happen to a human is that they can be displaced from their territory and from home.

Supplies
Supplies include air, water, and food. It also includes supplies for garment and the supply of fire and the goods to cook food in. We have a need for space that to roam in. We have such strong supply needs that hardly a day goes by when a human does not acquire or try to acquire. We need supply of electrify, light, and structure.

The supply of structure is the house we live in but it is also the social, intellectual, and moral structure we live in. Many of these structures have been overdeveloped so that they seem ostentatious and not necessities, yet at the base they are necessities.

Relations
Human need relations. Even those with hermit tendencies need other humans. We need to relate to another of our species in some way. Relationships fulfill us with intellectual and emotional needs. Some people believe that a human being can survive to the full extent of his natural life alone. That is some but not all people.

The emotional necessities are for affection, communication, and of course power play. Power play may not seem like a life's necessity but if you look at toddlers to old men, you will notice that they all have some way of wielding power. Some hold power more overtly and some are so subversive that they hold power by being the subjected.

Comfort needs
What are you without conversation? You might amount to nothing more than an animal with overdeveloped brain, language, and expression. We humans have a need to discover and explore things. Comfort needs are by definition not necessities but what is intellect if it is not challenging?

For some people comfort is a necessity. The need to be dry and warm is a comfort for instance but it is also a necessity for survival. Even the most luxurious sparkling water could be a necessity in some circumstance. If you were in the valley of filth and garbage and found a bottle of sparking water, you would need it to get out of the valley and to higher ground where the water is a concoction of synthetic and organic death.

Life's necessities are the things we take for granted those, which we consider just plain luxurious.
