If it wasn't for the start of stock car racing driver's there probably wouldn't be a known best all-time nascar driver today.Through the years I've found that everyone from the earlier years has found a little piece of experience to pass on to driver's today.While everyone today has there pick who's the best driver just like any driver they know they were a fan before they were a star.The first new car was held in June 19,1949 in Charlotte Speedway.There were 200 laps over the three-quarter-mile dirt oval.It was called the grand national series at that time and the winner was Glen Dunnaway owned by Hubert Westmoreland.Some believe there best driver should always be the ones that have started there career in nascar history.Where there weren't no winners or losers just making a worker's man dollar.At those times it wasn't much but it was enough to build on tell the next race.The age of the super speedway.In 1949 during a poker game ,stock car race promoter Harold Brasington proposed that an asphalt track be built near his home in Darlington,south Carolina.Brasington had visited the Indianapolis Speedway ,and he had vision building a similar track for stock cars.He took a risk but made only 25000 dollars on tickets,but he made enough to be able to complete construction.When the king had arrived after the deaths of Turner,weatherly,and Roberts came a new generation of racers led by lee petty's son Richard petty,which took racing to another level.Long after his retirement he was called the king.He won an incredible two hundred winston cup grand national races and seven times champion in 1964,1967,1971,1972,1974,1975, and 1979.And who can forget the Intimidator Dale earnhart who is loved and hated by more racing fans then any other.The son of ralph earnhart,who is a champion dirt track racer.Dale earnhart was also a 7 times champion in 1980,1986,1987,1990,1991,1993, and 1994.Who died in a car wreck in daytona on February 18, 2001.With the other driver's that had tragedies like Alan Kulwicki,Davey allison and davey 's brother clifford who died in a crash at the michigan international Speedway.Then there's jeff gordan who won 4 championships. Truly we wouldn't get this far if it wasn't for thanks of richard petty,david pearson who won 105 wins,bobby alison who won over 85 wins Darrel waltrip who has 2 championships,cale yarborough who had 83 wins or more,lee petty who had 54 wins,ned jarret had 50 tied with junior johnson, herb thomas who had 48 wins and others like fireball roberts,benny parsons,buddy baker .To me the best all-time nascar driver are the legends that stuck it out every track and gave the fans what they wanted ,entertainment,fun,joy over the years,a sense of direction for the future of racing.
