Horror movies are increasingly, nowadays becoming more and more popular, with massive followings especially towards the more gory versions of the horror movie for example "Saw" or "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre".
The Horror genre has been around for years, but only recently it has had a revival with the "Slasher" genre being revived in the 1990's with such massive hits such as the "Scream" trilogy and the "I know what you did last summer" movies. Both these were greatly instrumental in reviving horror, as they brought a fading genre back into the spotlight, and introduced it to the new generation of Viewers.
Since then there have been others, like the ever painfully enduring "Halloween" series, the brilliant "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" in 2003, and the recent "Saw" series, the two former being more into the realms of the gorefest rather than the slasher.
My question to the readers out there is, why has Horror had such a massive revival in recent years? Why are so many people interested in the over the top gore and torture of the "Saw" series?
Why is horror suddenly one of the most popular genres, for the first time in years?
