Becoming a participant on a Reality TV show is not for the faint of heart. It takes perseverance, determination, sometimes talent depending on the show, volumes of paperwork, signing your life away and all for a chance (which can be likened to winning the lottery) that you'll walk away a winner. So with that being said, if you still want to give it a try, go for it, after all, someone has to win, it might as well be you. Winner or not, though, you'll probably have a great time and have stories to tell for decades to come.
If you attempt to get picked for one of the Talent shows, like So You Think You Can Dance, or American Idol, they require top notch ability, along with a certain amount of teachableness. If you finally get that audition but have the attitude that you're the best, and that you'll blow the competition away, you may be sorely disappointed. The competition is really tough on these talent shows and the judges usually prefer that you check your ego at the door.
If you're not a singer don't go wait in line for 3 days to audition for American Idol, (even though part of the appeal of the show has become watching the worst of the worst singers). I know some people just want their 15 minutes of fame and are willing to do just about anything to get it. But there are far better ways to spend time than becoming a laughing stock.
If you're a dancer and think you can cut the rigors of intense competition, then So you Think You Can Dance would be a great show to try for. You've got to be really good though, so be honest with yourself before expending any energy here.
But if you're looking to participate on a show like Big Brother, or Survivor those shows are looking for interesting and diverse characters, so all personality types are welcomed.
Before researching the rules and guidelines on the Internet for getting on a reality TV show, become a regular viewer of the show you'd like to try out for. Learn how the game is played or how the competition is run. Study, the judges, what they are looking for, or get the DVD and study the strategy used by past winners. Then go to the Internet and find out as much as you can about the process and what's required to audition. I've included the web addresses below for some of the most popular reality TV shows.
There are so many reality shows on television currently that it would take pages to display all the links. If your favorite isn't listed, a great resource for all the current and past reality shows can be found on www.realitytvmagazine.com.
Hope to see you in a future season.
