Symptoms:
problems falling asleep even if you are exhausted

SLEEP APNEA
Described as when your breathing stops or gets very shallow while sleeping.
Symptoms:
frequent waking at night
feelings of 'choking' or gasping for air
gasping, gagging, choking sounds may happen in your sleep
Treatment for such a disorder includes behavioral changes, physical and mechanical devices, and even surgery.
RLS (Restless Legs Syndrome)
A sensory disorder with uncontrollable urges to move your legs while trying to sleep.
Symptoms:
almost irresistible urge to move legs
uncomfortable, tingly, or creeping sensations
small, jerky movements of the toes, feet and legs stopping you from falling asleep
Suggestions on treatment are alternative therapies, lifestyle change and maybe even nutritional supplements.
NARCOLEPSY
This disorder causes a person to have difficulty staying awake.
Symptoms:
uncontrollable episodes of falling asleep during the day
excessive day time sleepiness
sudden short lived loss of muscle control during emotional situations (cataplexy)
Required treatment include treatment to the nervous system using combinations of medication, behavioral treating, and counseling.
