TV show reviews: Rock of Love

I will admit that the prospect of making out with hunky Bret Michaels is not all that unappealing to me. Having loved his band (Poison) since I was a teen, I find that the blue eyed beauty is quite easy to watch. Though, witnessing him sucking face with any drunk girl with dyed spiky hair is just short of revolting, I am addicted. The latest edition to VH-1's reality series', 'Rock of Love' picks up where 'Flavor of Love', and 'I Love New York', left off. The reality show begins by featuring twenty-five young, trashy women falling all over themselves to win the heart of Mr. Michaels.

After following 'Flavor of Love' for two seasons, I was intrigued with the idea of a new show featuring someone that I considered far more attractive than both Flavor Flav, and New York. The young women all come into Bret's mansion (which is not his real house, by the way), and get introduced to each other, and the star rocker Bret. Fist fights ensue, and drinking prevails as Bret mingles with the selected women to determine who will get to stay in the house and 'rock his world' until the next episode and it is done all over again. The gals that are chosen to stay another round receive a backstage pass with their respective picture on it at 'elimination'.

The women are given 'challenges' that they will compete with one another in. The winners receive either a group date, or a solo date with Bret. This enables Bret to get to know the girls, and allows them to get closer to him, as well. Thus, Bret determines who will stay in the house, and who must leave. With each episode, the number of women dwindles, leaving eventually two, and finally one girl that supposedly wins the heart of Bret. The girls waltz around the mansion in skimpy, trashy outfits, and all too high heels to try to gain the attention from the aging rock God that is Bret.

Now in season two, 'Rock of Love' has enraptured us with debauchery, pole dancing, cat-fights, and silly antics. It has also brought to us new reality stars to worship, or to hate, in some cases. Season one had some of the most memorable 'contestants'. Lacey was the red headed devil who made her roommates lives literal hell while she was in the house. Heather was a bad girl rocker with an attitude, and eighties hair. Samantha was the rocker chick with the heart of gold that we hoped would mend Bret's wicked ways. Jes, who ended up the winner, was a pink haired, punky doll that we all loved. Bret picked Jes over Heather, but true to reality TV form,
