Recognizing mistakes: Helping future generations improve their education

Uh how about switching parents? lol...j/j The thing I would have done differently is to not be afraid to ask questions. When I was a little girl and said I wanted to be a secretary, bam, my parents went out a bought me a typewriter and THAT was it. No you can be a doctor, a lawyer, save the world, none of that, lol. Sure your parents tell you you can DO anything you want, but without some help and guidance, your sunk. I wish that I had someone to guide me better. The guidance counselor in our high school was only meant for the students who had "problems." I did not have parents who had access to any information, etc. Pick a major that you enjoy and you have a passion about and you can do something with. I majored in Industrial/Org Psychology, got married, had a child and I never used my degree for anything. There went $25K plus down the drain. If I could do it again I would do some research and find out my areas of interest or take an Occupational Interest test. Then I would call up various companies I was interested in that offered that position and request an informational interview. Talk to as many people as you can and never stop asking questions. Offer to do an internship or shadow someone for the day. The years will slowly but surely creep up on you. Do the leg work, research now (Invest in yourself) so that you're not just sitting at your desk, biding your time until it is time to retire.
