Best museums in Chicago

Museums are magical places that carry us to far-off lands, back in time and into the future. They explain some of the mysteries of life, let us explore a black hole and introduce us to the dinosaur world. Museums place the past, present and future at our fingertips. The great city of Chicago have some of the best of these "magical places".

111 S Michigan Ave, Grant Park
Chicago, IL 60603

Known as home to one of the most diverse and extensive collections of art in the world, you are in for a treat as you walk the halls of the Art Institute of Chicago. Founded in 1879 and built from the ashes of the infamous Chicago fire, the collection now represents, from all cultures, 5000 years of artistic expressions. Internationally known for its French Impressionist collection, which includes the largest group of Monet's in the world, the Art Institute is home to much more than that. From Ancient to Modern and African to Medieval, everyone will find at least one collection that intrigues them. If you are like me and find everything interesting or downright awe-inspiring: the Van Gogh's, "American Gothic", Georgia O'Keefe, Picasso, a rare group of 15th-century Spanish paintings, the Textile Collection and everything in-between, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to see it all.

The Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum, founded in 1930, is home to America's first planetarium and to one of the world's largest collections of scientific instruments. This twelve-sided building houses two full-size planetarium theaters; the StarRider, which is the world's first all digital projection 360 degree theatre, and SkyRider, where the night skies come alive as it is projected on the dome of the Adler historic planetarium. StarRider offers a virtual, interactive reality where visitors, with their chair-side controls, become an active participant in a 3-D space travel simulation. If you want to experience it all for one low price, plan your visit during "Far Out Friday" when, on the first Friday of every month, everyone has unlimited access to both theatres, educational activities and telescope viewing.

Open Daily 9:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m.
