About the AWN dock for Linux

sitting on it, and their reflections below them. The third version is totally unique to AWN and is called AWN Curves. Awn Curves is a rounded version of the Shelf like dock, and it juts looks stunning. In the current release of AWN (As of 3/14/08) AWN Curves is not in the preferences by default because there is still a little bit of work being done to perfect it.

Along with having those 3 basic looks and being able to themes them, you can also choose different animations to occur when your mouse goes over the icons. The "classic" animation will have the icons jump up and down on mouse over. "Squish" is a similar animation to "classic" except when the icons land the squish like a bouncing ball. The next one is called "fade" and the icons fade in and out when your mouse rolls over them. The there is "spotlight" which a spotlight will glow under them, giving them the effect of having a flash light being turned on below them. Next is "3d Turn" which rotates the icons in 3d so as they turn you see an icons depth. Lastly there is glow which just makes each icon light up a little bit.

If you already don't want AWN then you will after this next feature. The last great part of AWN is its applets, which thanks to the buzzing community there are loads of. These are small icons on your dock which can do almost anything. OK that's a little bit of a broad description so let me give you a few example applets. My favorite applet is the weather applet. This applet sits on your dock and displays the current weather and temperature outside. But then if you click the icon a fan our view of the forecast appears above the dock. There is along list of applets ranging from, andrss reader, an email checker, Pandora (yea the music website built into your dock!), a clock, a calendar, a trash, and a stack applet which is like stacks on Leopard! That is just a few of the great applets, with more and more being created and discussed every day.

AWN is a great dock with an amazing community buzzing around its forums and Launchpad. With all its great features that are not only cool but useful this dock is breaking the barriers for task launchers on a computer. I can't wait to see where AWN is heading with its amazing development speed!
