It seems obvious to some that God is a product of the human mind. It seems just as obvious to some, that God is a true being that the human mind reflects. The confusion behind this argument is that we all have varied notions of what that word 'God' means. Ever so slightly, we all have a different sense of what that word means. We have in almost every culture a notion that we can relate to this term 'God'. So some people hear it, and a set of opinions, imagery, or vague abstraction comes to their mind. So it is quite possible that if God the 'true being' exists, we can still have a fabricated notion that relates to the term. In this case we have 'true being' existing independently of a subjective opinion that we call God, in our mind. It is obvious then, that a 'true being' can exist, as well as a conceptualized contrived notion of that 'being' in our mind.
When we debate the existence of God, we more times then not get into a sort of qualification of semantics. We say, 'well I don't believe in the old grey bearded man on a thrown, but I believe in a higher power, like love!' Or we say, 'I don't believe god could exist in a world with this much suffering.' This statement presupposes an underlying notion of what their idea of God was, a God that wouldn't allow suffering. The refining of terms seems endless.
Where there is an end is when we ask ourselves if we ourselves are 'true beings'? If we arrive at the conclusion we are, then we can see that others may have differing notions of who we are or what our true intentions are. Even if they have no real basis. In this case we have a true nature that we know is true, and we have a hyped up image that exists weather based in truth or not in the mind of others. When we see that we do exist, this world does exist, and we see how fluid the concept of God is in our mind, we can easily be led to a place that we find a notion of God that relates directly to 'true being'.
The question then becomes if it is merely our own imagination creating this notion to cover an undefinable truth beyond any limited language. Does the apple exist if we refuse to call it an apple? Is a rose by any other name, still a rose? Is the notion of God merely an invention of our subjective mind, but a 'true being' we don't completely grasp exists indefinably? Obviously the answer is yes, unless you refuse to improve your own created notion of what the term 'God' really is.
