I believe, really, because I want to. I choose this belief not on things I have read in the Bible, or a song I heard, or even a revelation. My belief did not happen in church or some setting like a conversation with a religious person. I believe in God because I see Him everyday.
I see Him in the sunrise over the Rockies, and when the sun sets in on the Pacific Ocean. I see Him when a child smiles, or someone tells me thank you. I saw Him when a bunch of us truckers helped an older couple change a flat on the interstate. I saw Him when my children proudly graduated college. When I was distraught, He held me up, and comforted me. When I am tired, He gives me energy to go on, I see this everyday.
I read the Bible as much as I can, and it reminds me that He wants me to love and be loved. So when I see a couple in love, I seen Him too. This is why I smile a lot, and give thanks to God for what little I have. A great quote from the Bible, I think it is in Psalms, is "Is it by Your wisdom the eagle soars?". This is why I believe in God. He gave us animals to cherish and protect, and we get their love in return. By the way, I seen God when Katrina hit the coast. I was one of many volunteers of trucking to ship goods down to the victims. I seen God there when everyone pitched in together, and lent a helping hand. I did not want to hear thank you, seeing God was my reward. Like when I donate to charity, no thanks needed. I saw God when a homeless vet finally found a job.
The other month, my daughter called tearfully to tell me my dog was going to be put to sleep. The doctor told her there was nothing he could do for her. The saddest thing about this was I was on the road, and never got a chance to say goodbye. I cried that night, alone in my truck. But God knew my distress, because in my dreams that night, Nadia came to me, I hugged her and gave her one last kiss. I don't remember much, but that moment was there for me, to always have, even if it was just a dream. Thats why I believe in God.
When, back in the 60's, there was a movement that claimed God was dead, I used to tell the people who told me this, sorry about your God, mine is alive and doing quite a nice job, thnk you.
