are many words also available in Arabic, which meanings are similar or near the word of Mohammad and Muslims often use them as the parallel of word Muhammad. Like:
Mehmood (praised one)
Ahmed (the one who praise most)
Hamid (the one who praise)
Actually all these names are derived out from word Muhammad, so theirs' meanings are just slightly different as though of Mohammad but they certainly share the same theme.
The Arabic word Muhammad is a unique composition of its four letters. If you remove them one by one from the right side as being the Arabic word then there would be no distortion occurred in the meaning of the word in a great way.
"meem" + "haa" + "meem" + "daa" make a sound of mo-ham-mad" mean "the praiseworthy'
"haa" + "meem" + "daa" make a sound of "ham-mad" mean praise ness'
"meem" + "daa" make a sound of "mad" mean the superior'
"daa" mean upper"
The usage of the word Muhammad has slightly different in many countries but the best usage of this word is in Arabia itself where it first originates. If you don't know the real name of a person there you call him with the name of Muhammad and he will certainly respond. It's the most preferred first name in the world like Mohammad Ali and Mohammad Omar but it can be used as a second and third name as well.
It is very interesting that the name of Muhammad has slightly lower status as compare of those names in which the word of Allah (The Almighty God) or similar synonyms has been used. Abdul Rahman and Abdullah have upper status in the category of best name according to Islamic faith but it certainly shows a sign of enormous love and respect to a glorious Prophet.
