Crop circles are used for UFO evidence. The only problem is that they make pretty poor evidence for the existence of extra-terrestrials. Here are the reasons that crop circles are poor evidence for the existence of UFOs.
1) The vast majority of crop circles are obvious frauds and hoaxes. The number of groups that have claimed responsibility for crop circles increases daily because the time for them to get any cache in secrecy is long over. So, now, it just behooves these pranksters to admit what they are doing, congregate in pubs to boast about their exploits and start a club. These pranksters, or vandals if you prefer, actually produce works of art, and are to be commended in their efforts, if only they weren't actually destroying someone else's crops.
2) If these were messages, then the messengers are idiots. If the aliens wanted to leave messages that we could understand, why wouldn't they produce those messages in comprehensible languages. No one, even amongst the ufologists can agree on what these messages are actually saying. Since the complexity of these crop circle designs have increased every year (forgive the pun), then we need to assume that these extra-terrestrials are learning how to make crop circles at about the rate we would expect a drunken undergraduate to make, then we shouldn't expect them to actually be capable of interstellar flight.
3) If these are messages designed to test our intelligence, then the messengers are the ones who have failed to show their intelligence. Remember that when these crop circles began showing up everywhere in the 1970's, they were pretty crude compared to the designs people are making now. Perhaps the extra-terrestrials have learned how to make prettier designs from watching humans make them better than they were.
4) If these are being produced by technologically advanced extraterrestrials, then the extra-terrestrials need to get their money back on the circle-making-machines. The most complicated designs found so far were created by humans in the course of a single night, without being detected until the following day. The common tools are rope, planks, wire and hats. These man-made circles have been verified as authentic extra-terrestrial works by the foremost experts in the field, even when these so-called experts tested soil samples, took radiation readings and examined the bent stalks under a microscope. The ufologist experts can't tell man-made crop circles from extra-terrestrial
