20th century developments in western music

Western Music has developed considerably in the 20th century.
It first began as a kind of "rockabilly" style with home-grown roots in rural areas of Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky and Tennesse. From barefoot straw hat groups playing washboards and guitars playing on the front porch of poor homesteads to radio station musicians, contry music has progressed all the way to the likes of Shania Twain, Vince Gill, and whole modern televion channels featuring Faith Hill
and Leeanne Rimes in full concert halls supported by large philharmonic orchestras.

Contemporary Western Music has retained some of it's grass roots Western sound while incorporating the style and appeal of pop music. It has evolved from its hillbilly essence to a slick polished artform, sometimes straddling both the Western and Pop music categories at the same time as was clearly demonstrated when Western singer, Shania Twain won the Grammy for best pop song. Apart fromClassical Music
which will never change, Western Music, as well as other contemporary art forms, will continue to evolve as long as modern and future artists seek to musically express their creative talents.
